
Visual Communication Design of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara has many kind of laboratories to help the process of learning and creating for each civitas academica. Laboratory with innovation and learning support based can be used in both academic and non-academic creative process. Laboratories’ facilities such as hardware and software are always improved, renewed and updated in order to follow the newest trend of technology. The laboratory is hoped to train the students to adapt with industry needs, so that creative, innovative and professional graduates can be formed.
The rules of borrowing laboratory:
1. Applicant fills in the borrowing form.
2. Laboratory officer, Arts and Design Faculty laboratory coordinator and HSE Team will check the form’s completeness and the availability of laboratory and/with the requested equipment.
3. Applicant will get an email notification approval from [email protected] once the form is accepted. Hence, the applicant has to make sure that the email stated in the form is an active email and can be contacted by staff.
4. Laboratory is only available to borrow on operational days and hours of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara; Monday to Friday on 08.00 – 17.00.
5. The borrowing time of laboratory and/with equipment should be the same as what has been stated on the form. The user who’s late at returning the equipment will be put onto the blacklist for one semester.
6. All Arts and Design Faculty laboratory and/with equipment user should follow the general and particular rules that has been stated and will be sent to each user’s email when the borrowing form is accepted.

Photography Laboratory is located on the 6th level of tower B Universitas Multimedia Nusantara. This laboratory consists of a set of tools that support photography needs, such as lighting, backdrops, tabletops, reflectors and so on. In this laboratory, students will learn how to use and navigate DSLR & SLR cameras as well as to compose different lighting setups in order to maximize model and product photography. Photography Laboratory is generally used as a research and learning laboratory for the Visual Communication Design Study Program. This laboratory can also be used outside of lectures to support coursework, final assignments, various internal and external projects, as well as other student activities. In addition, this laboratory can also be used as a practicum laboratory for the lecture process so that students can immediately practice lighting arrangement techniques according to industrial needs.

Sound Design Laboratory is located on the 6th level of tower B Universitas Multimedia Nusantara. This laboratory is mainly used for practicum and lectures owned by the Visual Communication Design Study Programme. In here, students will learn how to compose different sound effects for games, advertisement jingles, motion pictures, etc. This room has 40 computers and recording equipment, such as sound mixer, amplifier, headphone monitor, microphone condenser and microphone boom.

Illustration and Publishing Laboratory is located on the 3rd level of tower B Universitas Multimedia Nusantara. This lab is a working lab of Visual Communication Design Study Programme, consists of illustration-making tools such as Wacom Cintiq for 2D illustration and Oculus Rift for 3D illustration. Illustration laboratory is usually used for supporting the process of mid term exam and final exam, internal and external project of Visual Communication Design study program. Beside of that, Illustration and Publishing Laboratory also covered a Masterpiece organization that produces online and digital magazine.
Illustration and Publishing Laboratory has a goal to create artwork and research that are linked with the needs of industry’s coorperation, which the result of it will be registered for IP (Intellectual Property) of VCD Multimedia Nusantara University. In this lab, the students will learn about the creating process of illustration kinds; 2D and 3D mascot design, campaign & advertising, 360 illustrations, editorial illustrations, etc. This lab covered productivity and can be the place of students to share knowledge for student to student, student to lecturer and student to practicioners with applying the standard and environment based on professional industry.

Green Screen & Immersive Laboratory is located on the 6th level of level B Universitas Multimedia Nusantara. This lab is a working lab of Visual Communication Design Study Programme and Film Study Programme that is usually used for outside the study schedule, but also can be used to support the process of mid-term exam, final exam, internal and external project. Motion capture, Oculus Rift, Virtual Reality Head Mounted Display and other equipment can be found in this lab. The students will learn about the creating process of interactive media, such as virtual concert, virtual influencer, motion capture, CGI effects, etc in this lab.

Printing Laboratory is located on the 1st floor of B building Univeritas Multimedia Nusantara. Printing laboratory is known by students as U-Print. U-Print is a working lab of Visual Communication Design Study Programme that has function to support printing needs of VCD study program’s tasks. There are variated facilities in U-Print, such as A3 sized laser printing, plotter machine, laser cutting machine, binding machine and 3D printing machine. 2D and 3D artwork such as placard, merchandise, 3D character, etc. Product and printing standard are also used by U-Print.
Display of printing works with any kind of media and its variated finishing such as acrylic, MDF wood, packaging, hard-cover book, kind of bindings and kind of papers can be found at Printing Laboratory. This display can be used as a source of students’ reference to choose which technique of printing that suits their project.
Beside of that, U-Print also has a set of self-service printer located at 1st floor of B Builiding. The facilitated printer is able to print up to A3 printed size with laser ink. The students can input their own file and do the payment themselves. Self-service printing are made to speed up the printing process and can be used every time.

Macintosh Laboratory is located on the 5th level of D tower Universitas Multimedia Nusantara. Macinthosh Laboratory consists 40 set of Macintosh based PCs with 27-inch and 5K Retina to create visual artwork with accurate color display and all softwares of Adobe Creative Cloud. Visual Communication Design Studio is located on the 8th and 9th level of D tower Universitas Multimedia Nusantara. VCD Studio is used for the purpose of learning the backbone of VCD Study Programme, which are Visual Communication 1-5. The layout and environment of the room are made so the students are facing each other to maximize discussion process, brainstorming and analysis in study session. This room is made as wide as possible, so the students are comfortable to do their project, assignments, mid-term exams, final exams and final project.
