One of the Visual Communication Design of UMN students class of 2019, Jeane Hilary, received the 2021 Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) as part of the Merdeka Learning-Independence Campus (MBKM) program and had the opportunity to study onsite at the University of Limerick, Ireland. Rizaldi, as the Head of UMN’s VCD Study Program, believes that this extraordinary achievement is the next step for the VCD of UMN after obtaining AUN accreditation and is expected to be an inspiration for other students, to support the vision of the VCD of UMN in increasing the spread of student relations internationally.
The IISMA release event was held online by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemdikbud Ristek) on August 9th, 2021, and was attended by 970 students from 98 tertiary institutions who successfully passed the 2021 IISMA Awarde selection, as well as Nadiem Makarim, as the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. At the event, he advised that IISMA scholarship recipients could explore to gain new insights and experiences, as well as broaden connections internationally.
Before Jeane left in September, UMN held an internal discharge event on August 12th, 2021, and was attended by the Deputy Rector for Relations and Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Muliawati G. Siswanto, M.Eng.Sc., Dean of the Faculty of Art and Design Muhammad Cahya Mulya Daulay, S.Sn., M.Ds., Head of Visual Communication Design Study Program Mohammad Rizaldi, S.T, M.Ds., and Global Office Manager UMN Boby Arinto, S.E., M.M.. In this internal event, Muliawati expressed her pride for Jeane’s achievements and mandated that as a student, besides studying, she also needed to deepen her culture and sharpen skills useful in her personal life and the environment.
In a separate interview, Jeane explained that IISMA participants must be students in semesters 4-7, and the selection process consists of screening files in the form of: grade transcripts with a minimum GPA of 3.0; recommendation letter from UMN; language proficiency test; curriculum vitae (curriculum vitae); and essays, as well as interviews in English.
Jeane added that IISMA participants were free to choose universities and courses without being bound by majors. Jeane, who has always been interested in Europe, chose Maastricht University in the Netherlands. However, Jeane was transferred to the University of Limerick, Ireland, due to limited quota. Even so, Jeane remains grateful for the opportunity given and is proud to have become the first representative from the VCD of UMN to receive IISMA.
