Description:

Filial piety serves as the foundation of Chinese cultural celebrations. People maintain connections with their families, relatives, and ancestors who have played meaningful roles in their lives. The Ghost Festival (Cioko) is held to honor the contributions of ancestors and forgotten spirits. However, this tradition is gradually being abandoned by the younger generation, largely due to a lack of education from parents and limited exposure in the media. To address this, a qualitative study was conducted through interviews and group discussions with parents. Applying the Five-Phase Model of the Design Process by Landa, the author designed an illustrated book as an educational and informational medium for children aged 5–8, with the hope of preserving the tradition of the Ghost Festival.
